Tems has unveiled her newest single, “Love Me Jeje,” on April 26th, featuring a sample from the timeless 1997 Nigerian hit “Love Me Jeje” by Seyi Sodimu, featuring Shaffy Bello.
This release marks Tems’ first track of 2024, following her collaboration on Tyla’s “NO. 1” from the South African artist’s debut album. “Love Me Jeje” follows her December 2023 release, “Not An Angel.” The song maintains a mid-tempo vibe with African percussions and Highlife influences, paying homage to Sodimu’s classic with nostalgic lines.
During her performance at Coachella 2024, Tems expressed her admiration for Sodimu’s record, describing the sampling as a tribute to the iconic song. This single also serves as a precursor to her highly anticipated debut album, which she announced as complete during her Coachella set. To build anticipation, a private listening session was held in Lagos.
Since her breakthrough in 2020 with her captivating performance on Wizkid’s “Essence,” Tems has soared to international acclaim. Collaborations with Drake and Beyoncé, along with her co-writing credits on the official soundtrack for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” with Rihanna, underscore her global influence. Notably, Tems made history as the first Nigerian female artist to win a Grammy for her contribution to Future’s “Wait For U.”
